United Utilities set to create more than 90 new jobs this year through its apprenticeship programme

United Utilities has launched its apprentice recruitment campaign with more than 90 roles available this year from Crewe to Carlisle.

As National Apprenticeship Week gets underway, the water company for the North West has announced it has roles ranging from scientist, project controller and data analyst through to mechanical and electrical engineer, customer service advisor and even an assistant town planner, available.

United Utilities has pledged to create 7,000 new jobs across Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Cumbria and Greater Manchester by 2030, as it delivers a record £13.7 billion investment programme. Some 500 apprenticeships will form a key part of the recruitment drive and are available to anyone - from those looking to take their first step into the world of work through to those looking for a career change.

United Utilities already has 250 apprentices taking part in its award-winning programme, gaining practical hands-on skills in a diverse range of roles, and achieving nationally recognised apprenticeship standards including degree-level.

It can be the start of a great career, as Katrina Clark from Warrington discovered.

Now in the third year of a level 3 apprenticeship in Project Controls she said: “A big benefit of an apprenticeship at United Utilities is that when you pass successfully, you will have a job at the end. I’ve almost completed my apprenticeship and I already know what role I am going into.

“As well as gaining qualifications, I’ve also developed other skills and my confidence has grown.”

Recruitment is now open for apprenticeships which will begin in September, giving people the chance to begin a career in the water and wastewater industry.

Adrienne McFarland, People Director at United Utilities added: “We’ve got opportunities available right across the business, and across our region, so whether you are interested in a hands-on engineering role or surveying role, or you have got a head for numbers and wanted to explore our opportunities in project planning, data analysis or finance – we could have the perfect role for you.

“We have a lot to offer from a competitive starting salary and annual leave entitlement to development opportunities and even 10 free driving lessons.”

Recruitment is open until 3rd March and the successful applicants will join the company in September.
